ISLAMABAD – Sir Syed Memorial Society in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) organised a seminar titled ‘The Role of Youth and Society in Drug Abuse Prevention’ at the Sir Syed Memorial Society building here on Wednesday.
Deputy DG ANF Altaf Qamar was the chief guest at the event that was attended by students of Sir Syed School and University, representatives of NGO’s, Government officials, and offcials of the Anti Narcotics Force.
Joint Executive Director RD, ANF Rawalpindi Col. Riaz spoke in length in his detailed presentation on the prevalence of drug abuse in Pakistan, and gave interesting information regarding the use of drugs in Pakistan, as well as drug trade. He also highlighted the role the Anti-Narcotics Force has been playing in seizing drugs as well as in the rehabilitation of drug addicts.
Project Director Sir Syed Institute of Leadership (SSIL) Wali Muhammad, who was one of the main organisers of the event as well, gave an interactive presentation on character building. The presentation also included a video highlighting the role each individual can play in order to make a difference in society, especially in minimising drug abuse in society, and was quite inspirational for the students present there.
Commander Anti-Narcotics Force Brig. Shafqat Hayat Khan also spoke at the event, speaking on the importance of character building and efficiency of the narcotics force in minimising drug abuse in society.
A presentation titled ‘The Role of Peer Groups in Drug Abuse Prevention’ was made by the Communications Associate UMTCI Usama Khilji. He said that UMTCI is a new consultancy with a young and vibrant team that believes in delivering excellence, and takes social responsibility very seriously. The presentation highlighted the role that peer groups can play in contributing to society in terms of preventing drug abuse apart from giving statistics relating to drug abuse in the country.
Safeer Ahmed Khan, a teacher by profession, quoted some famous poets including Hali and Iqbal and highlighted the importance of youth in nation building.
President of the Sir Syed Memorial Society Brig. Iqbal M. Shafi spoke about how the youth constitutes a large proportion of the population and can be the nation-builders. He also talked about the role the Sir Syed Memorial Society has been playing in social development in the country.
In the end, the chief guest Deputy DG ANF Altaf Qamar summed up the discussion that inspired the youth present at the event, and hoping for a better and brighter future.
